Temporary Darkness

Well, our family is going dark. We are going for the reduced media program. For 3 days, starting Tuesday we are not going to be using the computer, television, or video games. The phone will be screened. Not that I don't want to talk to you, but its a part of the package. We will probably either answer the phone, or just check messages and return calls. Our intentions are to reconnect as a family and realize how much we depend on these media(plural?) for entertainment. I am hoping things go well. If you know my kids, you know how much they love TV, mostly because I love for them to be watching it, so I can use the computer! Sometimes I use the television to babysit while I take a shower or load the dishwasher, but often its for my own leisure. I have some anxiety, I am a compulsive email checker, message board checker, and my new one, instant messaging. So my angst is that I will have to fight that compulsion to click. I am trying to focus on the purpose of this experiment and look forward to the outcome. I hope that our family can reconnect. That I can put effort into enjoying my children in their little moments each day and spend just a few more minutes giving them my desperately needed attention. So, in conjunction with this project, I will share a layout I did last month for a contest. I had to do a page titled: My Addiction. It might give you some insight into my "problem". I will miss my online buddies. But 3 days really is nothing! So here is my layout.

As part of my Design Team work at Savvy N Sassy, I am able to blog on their blog, so I uploaded a few projects there. Feel free to check them out and leave comments there. I would post them here, but I have a lot of internet stuff to get done.

And one more very important plug: Paper Popsicles is having a sale this week, the prices are already great, so a deal is a deal! Be sure to stop over and see what goodies Melissa has going!

Well, I for one am going to miss you. I think I'll say a prayer for you too!! I know I am always proud when my kids go one day with no TV. Need any suggestions to keep busy? What am I saying!! I know 3 kids itself will keep you busy!

Good luck with your media free project. I've thought of doing something like this too. This year I have given up 5 TV shows that I usually watch. That's big. But I still watch movies over and over. Is that the same thing? I'm trying to keep the kids busy after they come home from school so they don't have time to watch the tube. Now if I could only find something else for Kade to do while I'm busy. Hmmm....
